But the park's crowning glory is Skradinski Buk – a huge natural pool with 17 cascading waterfalls bursting through the trees. Tomislav adds, “The fairytale tiers of Skradinski Buk were formed by layers of travertine limestone building up from the mineral springs that feed it.”Before visiting the park, you'll have a break for a snack at a local restaurant close to the park entrance. You've then got around three hours to explore the park for yourself. You can go wildlife spotting along the trails, looking out for nightingales, herons, falcons and owls, which are all regulars here. Plus, the water is so see-through-clear here that it's easy to spot fish in the waters of the Krka River. Simply strolling through the park's walkways gives you a whole new appreciation for the power and artistry of Mother Nature.

You'll visit two markets and grab a typical snack at Mlinice Pantana, before heading to Trogir. Once in Trogir, you'll notice a calmer, more compact atmosphere on this small island just offshore. Its old town feels almost frozen in time, with narrow streets, elegant squares and medieval architecture. At its centre stands the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, home to the remarkable Radovan Portal. Together, Split and Trogir show two sides of Dalmatia – energetic and unhurried –, and it's that contrast that makes the day stay with you.
