Why you’ll love this…

  • There's an open-sided wooden tram ride between Soller and Port de Soller
  • You can admire the view on a scenic catamaran cruise to the secluded cove of Sa Calobra
  • You'll visit the remote monastery of Lluc, hidden among the pine-studded mountains
  • Your expert local guide will reveal the secrets of Majorca's mountains and its people
What to expect

There's something really special about this trip to northern Majorca – the way in which you sightsee is part of the adventure. That's because you'll travel by coach, train, tram and boat during our exclusive excursion through Soller, Port de Soller and Lluc. What's more, you'll have an in-the-know local to show you around. Juan, one of our guides, says, ‘Until the railway was built, Soller could be reached only by boat. So, it traded a lot with France, rather than the rest of the island. And so it has a certain Gallic charm.'

Hop on the century-old Soller train – think antique wooden carriages with brass fittings – and zigzag your way through the pine-clad Tramuntana Mountains, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's an experience oozing nostalgia. And as the train is electric, it's a more sustainable way to travel. There's also a trip on a tram linking Soller and Port de Soller, during which you'll pass through orange groves and narrow tracks behind homes. The Soller valley is famous throughout the islands for its oranges and the ice cream made from them while the red Soller prawns caught in nearby waters are considered a delicacy.

Hop onboard a catamaran from Port de Soller next, for a leisurely sail towards the secluded cove of Sa Calobra. Hemmed in by cliffs, this natural beauty spot is Majorca at its rawest. Then, back on dry land, you'll round off with a visit to Lluc Monastery, nestled in the mountains. Here, you'll enjoy a guided tour of this holy pilgrimage site, before heading back to base.

Palma tours with Cathedral and Valldemossa options

Take your pick from a variety of ways to visit Majorca's atmospheric capital, Palma. Explore the city at your own pace with our simple, hassle-free transport only option. Or, perhaps you would like to add a visit to the waterfront cathedral. To make the most of your day, you can pair a guided cathedral experience with a trip to the hilltop town of Valldemossa, too. Hugo, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Palma Cathedral is astonishing. The apse's rose window alone contains more than 1,100 pieces of stained-glass – and was designed to align with the façade's rose window twice a year, on 2/2 and 11/11, to create the figure of 8.'How the day unfolds depends on the option you've selected. With our Palma free time ticket, you'll have a few hours to use as you choose. Shop in the city's chic boutiques and high street fashion stores, check out plazas lined with terrace cafés, or enjoy the plentiful supply of art galleries and museums. Add the sightseeing bus option if you want to roam free without the leg work, the Elements audiovisual experience for something different during your day out, or add the tapas menu for a traditional lunch at Restaurant Gran Hotel. If you've opted for the Palma and Cathedral entrance ticket, you'll get a guided tour to explore this vast Gothic masterpiece. If you're after the premium option, this will include a visit to Valldemossa – an achingly pretty village strewn on a hill less than 30-minutes' drive from Palma. Hugo says, ‘Valldemossa is the essence of rural Majorca. Honey-hued stone houses with green shutters cluster around the belfry. Make sure to try the local potato cake, ‘coca', dipped in hot chocolate.' What is the itinerary for this experience?
