What to expect

Lanzarote's volcanic scenery comes into its own at Timanfaya National Park. This corner of the island is all rusty-red peaks and craters straight from a sci-fi movie set. And it's all even more dramatic at sunset. So on this evening trip, you're in for a treat. Before heading to Timanfaya, we'll make a short stop at La Geria winery. Local guide, Maria, says, “this bodega offers a magnificent backdrop of volcanic vineyards and sweeping mountain views as you sip on local varieties in a wine sampling.”

You'll drive the park's famous Lunar Route around the scorched peaks, known as the Mountains of Fire. Then, enjoy an exclusive stop at Montaña a Rajada lookout, before arriving at El Diablo, a circular restaurant built on top of the Islote de Hilario volcano. Designed by Lanzarote's acclaimed architect, Cesar Manrique, its floor-to-ceiling windows command jaw-dropping panoramas over the national park.

After capturing the candy floss clouds and craters on camera, tuck into dinner sizzled up on the volcano-heated barbecue, enjoying the views and live Canarian music.

This experience operates on a seasonal schedule, so the itinerary timings vary depending on whether you visit in winter or summer.

Winter itinerary (around late October to late March):

- 2:30pm to 3:50pm – pick-up from Costa Teguise, Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero areas

- 3:00pm to 3:50pm – pick-up from Playa Blanca area

- 4:05pm to 4:35pm – wine-tasting at Bodega La Geria

- 4:50pm to 6:15pm – Timanfaya National Park visit with the Lunar Route and a photo stop

The weather was terrible with low cloud and rain. Our guide seemed nervous that we would all complain. Despite this the trip was very enjoyable. The BBQ dinner was excellent and the (reduced due to weather) coach trip through the national park still fascinating. We could have done with longer at the volcano to visit the shop. The other minor gripe was the order of pick up and drop off. We were first to pick up but still last to drop off which seemed unfair in a resort like Playa Blanca

All too rushed. Guide was not good. Weather was abysmal, should have been cancelled BBQ was pre cooked & cold,, didn't complete trip round craters, low visibility, best thing about it was the coach driver

The visit to the wine tasting was not needed as only given a thimble full then immediately ushered into the shop. ( money making excercise). 3 experiments were excellent, tour,afound the volcanoes was excellent, breath taking views and great to see it is protected. Restaurant experience was great, staff were amazing, very attentive wine , sangria, prosecco free flowing and the food was very good. The band on entry and throughout were authentic and lovely. Ant fault it.

Guide was very polite and informative Had not been told about vineyard wine tasting, but a bonus Highlight was able to get out on the volcano tour..a real life experience 3 course meal…so much well cooked meats and non stop drinks Thank you

Timanfaya volcanic tour

This half-day tour is Lanzarote in a nutshell. You'll call in at El Golfo lagoon, journey through Timanfaya National Park and visit the Salinas de Janubio. There's also a sample of local wine to round off the tour.First up, you'll visit the waters of El Golfo - it's emerald waters have starred in many a Hollywood film over the years. But that's just an appetiser for the main event – the visit to Timanfaya National Park.
