On this tour, you will visit the camps of Auschwitz I and Birkenau. Entrance to the camps is individual, there is no guide, and you will visit both sites by yourself. You will be given approximately 3.5h to visit both camps. Unlike on the guided tour, you willave time to read information, letters of prisoners, documentaries, etc. which are actually in Auschwitz. All of the exhibitions are with English subtitles. To complete the experience, on the tour, you may buy a guide book, with a map of camps, descriptions, and information on how to make a visitation. During the tour, there is expected about 15 minutes break. It is advised that you carry your food and water to reduce undue delays caused by ordering food on the spot.
Nearly 1.3 million people were held captives in these concentration camps. Out of these, nearly 1.1 million are known to have perished within the walls of the camp.
Today, the complex is visited by people from all over the globe who pay their respects to the victims and who try to imagine the extent of violence and hatred faced by the people living in the camps. A museum and exhibition have been set up by the authorities, which display photos, letters and other items related to the concentration camps.
