What to expect

And Teror is where your adventure begins. Strolling past the balconied townhouses of Calle Real de la Plaza towards the mountain-framed basilica of Our Lady of the Pine is one of the defining Gran Canaria experiences. A scenic mountain drive away is Tejeda, which is a bit of a looker itself – red-roofed, whitewashed houses sprinkled on the slope of a valley. David adds, ‘Every time there's a list of Spain's prettiest villages, Tejeda is near the top. Its setting is unbeatable.'

There's also a pit stop at Las Tirajanas viewpoint to admire a vast volcanic caldera, as we make our way to Fataga to eat. A lunch made from locally sourced ingredients will be served in a family-owned restaurant. After a little amble through the town, we'll visit a nearby aloe vera plantation to get the lowdown on its medicinal properties. Generations of islanders have used extracts from the plant for skin burns.

Excellent itinerary and enthusiastic and professional guide (Chardy) and driver (David). Would have liked the chance to ask questions on the coach tour and also learn a bit more about the history of the island - we got lots of interesting BFF info re the geography and flora and fauna etc. Also meal was pretty mediocre which was a bit of a shame but everything else was excellent. Also both Daniela (and also Nizan our Tui Rep in the Riu Palace Hotel have been extremely friendly and helpful.

Positive- the views were absolutely fantastic and knowledgeable tour guide Negatives - Very poor lunch ( charge less and cut out the lunch).Insufficient time to walk around villages. Too much time given at Aloe Vera plantation which in my opinion was nothing more than a sales ploy to get customers to buy products Three minibuses in convoy with commentary coming from a guide in a car relaying information by radio to the buses. Not the best communication system probably cutting down on staff!!!

Very disappointed that we paid a significant premium using TUI as one key visit within the trip was a place called Tejeda. The guide told us on the day we wouldn’t be going there due to there being a festival. This was part of the reason for wanting to go. If we had been able to cancel and go with an independent guide company we would have done.

Great trip to Tremor etc - sold to us as small trip no more than 16. But we ended up being the end of a convoy, the tanoy system was very loud and distorted making it illegible. 48 of us sat down for lunch with Sangria like Vimto and coach driver could not get rid of us fast enough
