What to expect

A scenic drive inland from the Costa del Sol, the Caminito del Rey is one of Spain's most heart-stopping trails. And this hike through the legendary route in the Guadalhorce Valley is one you won't easily forget. You'll trek through the Gaitanes Gorge while learning of the unique geological formations of this awe-inspiring landscape.

From Malaga's Lake District, you'll set out on foot for the Gaitanes Gorge, the canyon carved out of the bedrock by the sweeping River Guadalhorce. Stroll along a recently renovated boardwalk set on the sheer face of the gorge, which in some places is nearly 700m deep and only 10m wide.

This walkway was originally built a century ago and was named Caminito del Rey – ‘the King's Walkway' – after King Alfonso XIII, who officially opened it. Your guide will explain all about the rock formations as well as the impressive feats of engineering.
