What to expect

With this experience, you can visit the new Acropolis Museum at your own pace! The museum, one of the most important in Greece, has a total area of 25,000 square meters and includes archaeological treasures dating to pre-historic times. It is divided into 4 main galleries and offers the opportunity to the visitor to see archaeological artifacts and learn about the Acropolis site.

After crossing the ground floor lobby, you'll find the Gallery of the Slopes of the Acropolis. This collection houses finds from the sanctuaries that were founded on the slopes of the Acropolis, as well as objects that Athenians used in everyday life from all historic periods. Continue to the Archaic Acropolis Gallery where, with the benefit of the changing natural light, you will discern and discover the delicate surface variations of sculptures and select the vantage point from which to observe the exhibits.

In the last gallery, you will admire unique works that became prototypes for subsequent periods from antiquity to today. For the first time ever, it is possible to view the coffered ceiling of the Propylaia, the sculptures from the parapet of the temple of Athena Nike, and finally, the Caryatids – or Korai of the Erechtheion at close proximity on the balcony overlooking the Gallery of the Slopes of the Acropolis. Conclude your visit at the north side of the first-floor gallery where you will see numerous statues once placed on the Acropolis, which represent gods, heroes, mythological elements and portraits of famous men.

You can choose between the Entrance ticket or the Entrance ticket with audio guide.

Private Athens Tour with Acropolis and Plaka

The ancient Greeks left behind a treasure trove of monuments, statues and artefacts in Athens. And on this private tour, you'll take in all the top spots with an expert guide. Exclusively for you and your party, you'll tour highlights including the Roman Agora, Hadrian's Library, the Plaka neighbourhood and the UNESCO-listed Acropolis. Vassiliki, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Acropolis means “high city” and it usually refers to any settlement built on top of a hill. You'll find many towns in Greece that have an acropolis, but the Acropolis of Athens is certainly the most famous.'You'll start with a guided tour of the Acropolis – with skip-the-line tickets, there'll be no waiting around. Soak up wow-factor views over Athens at the Areopagus – a rocky hill where legend has it the Greek gods would hold court. Let your guide bring history to life as you marvel at ancient landmarks like the Roman Agora, the Theatre of Dionysus and the still-standing columns of the Asklepieion and Parthenon. Then, it's on to the city's Instagram-worthy old quarter, Plaka – the capital's most appealing and historic neighbourhood. Always thronged with a mix of locals and visitors, the pedestrianised lanes are brimming with tavernas whose tables spill onto the streets. Vassiliki says, ‘Athenians call this area “the neighbourhood of the Gods,' as it has been inhabited since the days of ancient Greece. In fact, excavations show that the street layout has barely changed since antiquity.'
