The Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Lyon, also known in English simply as the Lyon Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic church of major historical significance in Lyon, France.
Conveniently located in the heart of Lyon’s old town (Vieux Lyon), this medieval cathedral consistently impresses tourists and locals alike with the large rose window on its facade, its stunning interior filled with intricate altars and stained glass windows, and the famous 14th-century astronomical clock held inside.
The Lyon Cathedral took approximately 300 years to complete, with construction taking place from 1180 to 1476. Dedicated to Sain John the Baptist, the cathedral was build primarily in a Gothic style with touches of Romanesque architecture. It is also the seat of Lyon’s Archbishop.
