Why you’ll love this…
  • You'll explore the ‘Oasis of Fuerteventura' on a small-group walking tour
  • Discovering the remote hamlet of Vega de Rio Palmas and its rugged valley is part of the tour
  • You'll see the tiny hermitage of Las Peñitas, located in a Wild West-like gully
  • There's a visit to the west coast fishing village of Ajuy to discover its volcanic sea caves
  • An expert local guide will share their unrivalled knowledge of Fuerteventura and its trails
What to expect

Everything that makes the western highlands of Fuerteventura special comes together on this walking tour. Your guide will lead you through one of the island's greenest areas and barren landscapes with a Wild West feel, all the way to the fishing village of Ajuy – and there's a few hidden surprises on this well-known route. Fernando, one of our insider guides, says ‘Every year, on the third Saturday of September, thousands of islanders dressed in traditional Canarian costume pilgrimage through the gorge to worship Fuerteventura's patron saint.'

Discover off the beaten track parts of Fuerteventura as you embark on foot, crisscrossing valleys from the hamlet of Vega de Rio Palmas to the hermitage of Las Peñitas. There'll be plenty of photo stops and the chance to rest in the shade under one of the many date trees which dot the route. Thanks to the surrounding sea of green vegetation and otherworldly rock formations, locals refer to the area as the ‘Oasis of Fuerteventura'. Film fans, though, can spot it in one of the scenes from the Marvel movie, The Eternals.

Continue the trail along a gorge towards the coast and we'll reach the wave washed Ajuy. This remote village is famed for its sea caves, which you'll get time to explore along with its black volcanic beaches. Stroll along the shore at El Jurado and treat your feet to a dip in the refreshing water of the Atlantic. We'll tuck into a well-deserved picnic before heading back.

I love this trip. Made it second time as this is one of the best offered on Fuerteventura. Amazing nature views and most time outside the car. Awesome!

The guide was not the usual guide (his statement) although he tried hard but his use os english was very limited... The "Walking Tour" is incorrectly named. When the transfer van arrived, the guide stepped out and asked if we were the "one's for the hike...". It turned out that it really was a hike - up and over mountainous terrain with slippy loose rocks to climb or travel across - If the description should walking hike rather than a walking tour - very very difficult!

Then, with a bit of luck, you'll be treated to an incredible show as they leap, plunge and race through the water alongside you.You may even spot baby dolphins swimming close to their mothers, and if you're really lucky, pilot whales too. And when your eyes aren't tracking the waters, you'll have the Jandia coastline to gaze out over while you sit back with a drink and relax.
