Things to do in The Grand Egyptian Museum

4.4/5(428)

As the crowning jewel of Egypt's long and storied past, the Grand Egyptian Museum in the city of Giza holds a special place in the hearts of Egyptians and tourists alike. Stepping into its grand halls feels like you’re stepping back in time on an immersive journey through millennia of history, culture, and tradition. From towering statues of pharaohs to intricately crafted jewellery that was once worn by queens, the museum is a treasure trove of artifacts that tell the tale of this ancient civilization.

Then, there's the building itself. It’s a modern marvel designed to reflect the glamour of Egyptian architecture. Nestled within the bustling cityscape, it’s a peaceful escape offering panoramic views over the Pyramids of Giza, a sight you definitely need to have your holiday tick list. You'll find the iconic Sphinx and a bunch of other iconic sights within a hop, skip and a jump of the museum, too.

Inside, you are greeted by huge, elegantly appointed halls filled with priceless relics from different eras. The star of the show is hands-down the Tutankhamun collection, with its golden chariots and mysterious death mask – it’s a monument to the boy king's short but impactful reign.

“FANTASTIC!! The handover from hotel to coach to plane to coach and back again was seamless. We had our own security guard for the whole trip (11 of us from different hotels in total) so security was never a question. It is an early start but you won’t regret it. Standing under the pyramids is something we won’t ever forget. GEM is AMAZING! We also had a Nile boat ride! Most importantly, our guide, was PHENOMENAL. His passion for knowledge - whether it be pyramids or Cairo - was unmatchable.”

“Bus driver was punctual, we had someone meet us at Hurghada and Cairo the airport to advise us where to go. Airplane Dash-8 Q300 PAS internal flight from Hurghada to Cairo was very dated my sister passed out because she overheated the cool air vent in the panel above our seat didn’t work. Lunch venue food was limited so was a bit disappointing Our guide Sharhinaz Medway was brilliant, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful fun liked her very much. Overall fantastic day out would definitely recommend”

“A wonderful day, the guide was great & knowledgeable & kept us all interested & engaged even when one of our group got lost. We had just the right amount of time at the pyramids in the morning and the museum in the afternoon. We had a lovely lunch at a Giza Hotel, and we felt safe and protected.”
