Things to do in Piran

Piran is one of the adriatic towns of Slovenia and is reknown for its medieval city centre. The town has been under Venetian rule for centuries, before becoming part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire first and of Yugoslavia after WWII. Piran still has medieval walls on which you may walk. The main square, Tartini trg, used to be a natural basin which has been filled with earth, but the historical buildings still remain. On top of the hill lies the Venetian style St. George Cathedral, with a Franciscan monastery nearby, famous for its beautiful cloister.
