The guide was very knowledgeable on the region and the coach driver was very skilled in threading through the fantastically chaotic traffic on the narrow roads. The walk up vesuvius was less challenging than anticipated but it's very busy most of the time, great views everywhere. Nice reward at the summit a local glass of wine for €2. The winery was very good the owner and staff are excellent hosts serving lovely food and wines. Well worth it

First, you'll travel by bus up the flanks of Vesuvius to 1,000 metres altitude. The volcano looms large over the Gulf of Naples, and it was a huge eruption here that buried Pompeii in AD79. Volcanic soils are extremely fertile, explaining why the area around the volcano has been populated for millennia. Once you leave the bus, you'll finish the journey to the crater on foot. With top-drawer views over the bay from the top, you'll want to take your camera for this one.
