Beschreibung

Nikosia ist eine faszinierende Stadt, die Sie erkunden können - sie bietet Ihnen einen Einblick in zwei sehr unterschiedliche Welten. Diese Tour beginnt im südlichen Teil Zyperns und führt durch die Pufferzone der „Grünen Linie“ in den nördlichen Teil von Nikosia.

Ihr erster Halt ist die im französisch-byzantinischen Stil erbaute Johanneskathedrale. Als Nächstes steht ein Spaziergang durch die historischen Straßen von Laiki Geitonia innerhalb der venezianischen Stadtmauern auf dem Programm. Es ist ein Labyrinth aus gewundenen Straßen mit Kirchen, Plätzen und verzierten Gebäuden.

Nachdem Sie die Grüne Linie passiert haben, hören Sie Erzählungen über die Geschichte und Kultur der Stadt, während Sie einige der wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten besichtigen. Anschließend kehren Sie in den südlichen Teil der Stadt zurück, wo Sie in der Ledra-Straße das moderne Stadtleben in Ruhe erkunden können.

Alexia, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘At the taverna, you'll get together with the locals and feel their culture and dance. Join us for a knees-up to remember in one of the area's most popular tavernas.We'll kick off with a short drive towards Petra tou Romiou – as Aphrodite's Rock is known locally. Clink glasses at this mythical sea stack and enjoy the evening light while sipping on a sparkling wine. ‘A celebration in honour of the goddess,' as Alexia says. You'll then head to the village of Kouklia, a short drive inland from the coast, for a Cypriot dinner with a difference.A first sight, it's a typical family-run taverna. You'll get to savour just about every Cypriot dish you could possibly wish for. The emphasis is on pure ingredients and traditional meze – cooked the way they've been for generations – washed down with local wines. But on summer evenings, the family takes over the street, hosting feasts of folkloric music and dancing. Let your hair down and join the locals with some boogying and shaking on the outdoor terrace. As nights out go, it's a showstopper.

Troodos Mountains 4x4 Tour

Spanning vast meadows, orchards and thick forests filled with birdlife, the landscapes of the Troodos Mountains are ever-changing. And there's no better way to explore them than by 4x4. On this full-day tour, you'll see Omodos, Aphrodite's Rock and much more.The day starts with a quick stop by the Big Rock, before journeying deep into the Troodos Forest to visit the photogenic Tzelefos Bridge. Troodos Mountains Tour with Kykkos Monastery and Lunch

The journey into the Troodos Mountains is a journey to another Cyprus. Rustic stone villages dot tree-clad valleys where traditional ways of life still hold sway. This tour takes you into the spiritual heart of the highlands, the Kykkos Monastery, as well as up to Throni Hill. Alexia, one of our local guides, says, ‘The icon of the Virgin Mary at Kykkos is considered miraculous, so at least once a year, it's important for Cypriots to visit the church.'As you go into the depths of the Troodos, you'll encounter luxuriant landscapes which contrast with the arid coast. You'll head to the Kykkos Monastery first. Perched on Mount Kykkos, it's laden with religious treasures, and you won't be able to keep your eyes off the golden icons and frescoes – except for the icon of the Virgin Mary. It's kept under wraps, with the last known viewing being hundreds of years ago. You'll also have free time to wander around the grounds and enjoy the panoramic views of the mountains. What's more, your visit helps the preservation of this important heritage site.We'll then visit the hilltop tomb of Archbishop Makarios III. Superb views greet you before the drive down to the village of Pedoulas. Here, you'll enjoy a typical Cypriot lunch made from locally sourced ingredients in a family-run restaurant. There's time for an optional walk up to the richly decorated Orthodox church of the Holy Cross, then we'll head back with a coffee stop at Pano Platres en route.
