Das Carmen Thyssen Museum von Málaga wurde am 24. März 2011 für die Öffentlichkeit geöffnet. Der Schwerpunkt des Museums ist spanische Malerei aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, vorwiegend andalusisch, basierend auf der Sammlung von Carmen Cervera, Ehefrau des Barons Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza. Seit 1992 ist die Kunstsammlung der Familie Thyssen im Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid zu sehen. Carmen Thyssen ist seit den 1980er Jahren selbst Kunstsammlerin und ihre persönliche Sammlung wird separat ausgestellt. 1999 erklärte sie sich bereit, mehrere Stücke aus ihrer Sammlung an das Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum für einen Zeitraum von zwölf Jahren auszuleihen. In Málaga wurde ein Zuhause für ihre Sammlung gefunden. Eines der Ziele von Málaga ist es, ein Kultur- und Begegnungszentrum zu werden, eine Stadt der Museen, ein Muss für alle, die Kunstwerke entdecken, bewundern und betrachten möchten.
