Das Nonnental, Curral das Freiras, eine kleine Gemeinde umgeben von steilen Bergen, liegt im Herzen der Insel. Es wird angenommen, dass dieses tiefe Tal entweder durch Erosion oder vulkanische Aktivität geformt wurde.

Nachdem Sie die Kirche Santo António passiert haben, ist Ihr erster Halt der Aussichtspunkt Pico dos Barcelos auf 350 m Höhe. Von hier aus können Sie die herrliche Aussicht auf Funchal genießen.
