Situated on the northwestern side of the island above the small town of Paleokastritsa, this large monastery complex is dedicated to Panagia – the Virgin Mary. Getting here is a treat in itself. By foot or car, you’ll pass through olive groves and cypresses with the Ionian Sea in the distance.

Wander around the small courtyards, charming archways and take in the monastery’s intricate bell tower. Discover the monastery's elegant 18th-century architecture and intricate Byzantine-style frescoes that adorn the walls. The monastery's museum houses a collection of religious artefacts, ancient manuscripts and precious icons. The calm and peaceful atmosphere will let you appreciate the true beauty of this area.

“The palace was disappointing as you couldn't go in. Spent too long on the coach and not enough time at the destinations to explore. Was told to follow guide for lunch which was not what we were expecting. Made to feel uncomfortable as wasn't our choice. Was not told we could go somewhere else for lunch. The boat trip was optional but again was not made clear and everyone ended up going on that also.”

“Too much time on the coach, you're trying to fit too much in. There were 3 20 minute stops and an hour and a half for lunch. We were out for 10 hours. That's 7 and a half hours on the coach. The bus left before the hotel had served breakfast, and didn't stop for lunch until 6 hours later. The one 20 minute break before then wasn't enough time to eat. The distillery visit was really only a visit to the shop, and the monastery was rushed as well. The guide and driver were excellent.”

“This tour should be cancelled until the main house is re-opened to public viewing,I understand that there is renovation to main house on going but just viewing a few statues in the gardens is not value for money. As a whole my a family was very disappointed with this tour not with the guide who tried to entertain people as much as she possibly could!!”
